The part-time bachelor study programme "Versicherungsmanagement" (taught in German) is aimed at employees from the insurance industry who have already completed a programme of training as a merchant for insurance and finance or an insurance specialist and now want to further develop their specialist knowledge and methodological skills through a study course. The programme is designed to prepare the graduates for demanding specialist and management tasks in the insurance industry.

The degree programme is seamlessly based on the insurance specialist training, so that insurance and finance professionals can enter directly into the 5th semester. The degree "Fachwirt" is fully credited. The study programme was developed in close cooperation with the Hamburg Insurance Industry and is carried out in cooperation with the  The result is a permeable training concept for the insurance industry, which offers the best perspectives and a high level of flexibility: from training to specialist to a bachelor's degree.

Programme Organisation and Structure

Insurance Management (Bachelor of Arts) at ÑÇÖÞÌìÌø£Àû

The study programme is carried out part-time. The lectures take place on Friday afternoons (online) and on Saturdays. In addition, a block week is carried out every semester.

The study course teaches business management, economics as well as industry-specific knowledge and thus provides the basis for a successful career in the insurance industry. In addition, methodological skills, soft skills and intercultural content are taught. More than 50 percent of the study content is insurance-specific. The programme includes lectures such as Insurance Management, Insurance Marketing, Risk Management in Insurance Companies, Industrial and Commercial Insurance, Actuarial Science and Insurance Law. In addition, an elective area is offered in which you can choose between the lectures management of the Brokerage Business, Insurance English or deepen your skills in Personal Insurance. Furthermore, a Simulation Game is conducted on the management of an insurance company. In addition, an Excursion to selected insurers and brokers is planned.

The programme pursues the goal of communicating the relevant topics in the area of ​​risk and insurance management, highlighting the challenges in individual subject areas and their management, as well as demonstrating theoretical concepts and their implementation in practice.

Admission Requirements

For the Bachelor's study course Insurance Management the following admission requirements apply:

  • a completed training as a merchant
  • a completed training as a certified insurer for insurance and finance, which has been completed with a minimum grade of 2.9
  • a letter of recommendation from the employer

The admission is decided by an Admissions Commission. Participants who do not meet the above criteria will be invited to a selection interview, at the conclusion of which the Admissions Committee decides whether the candidate will be admitted.

The crediting of other pre-qualifications is basically possible, but will be examined in individual cases by the Admissions Committee.

The Berufsbildungswerk der Versicherungswirtschaft Hamburg (BWV) e.V. is a non-profit association for the promotion of vocational training. With its comprehensive education programme, it offers employees in the insurance industry all the opportunities for vocational education and training - from apprenticeships to specialists.

Continuing education as a specialist in insurance and finance (IHK) is the core of continuing professional education. It is the "master training" of the industry. In the part-time 1.5 year continuing educational programme, experienced lecturers from the field impart specific knowledge in the insurance sectors as well as management skills which are important in everyday professional life and which form the basis for a professional career in the sector. At the same time, the Fachwirt forms the basis for the Bachelor’s degree. Together with the vocational training, four semesters are thus credited to the degree programme.
